Classic UK Kids TV

Its funny when you're young. You take lots of things for granted. Such as there always being really great telly programmes on, every morning, every evening, whenever you want them. Videos hadn't been invented, but that was okay, we had all we needed right there.

I remember Saturday mornings I'd get up early, creep downstairs with my duvet, because it was always cold and I wasn't allowed to light the gas fire, and snuggle up on the settee to watch Champion the Wonderhorse. Later in the day would be Space 1999, and teatimes brought Tom Baker's Dr Who bounding onto our sets.

Ivor the Engine

The Clangers

Bagpuss

Best of all were the British kids programmes though. Bagpuss was my favourite (go check out my Bagpuss Homage Page) along with the Clangers, Mr Benn, Ivor the Engine, Camberwick Green and Trumpton - I could sing along with all the songs - Rentaghost, Bod, Fingerbobs, Magic Roundabout, the list just goes on. How one decade could produce so many great ideas is a mystery, but one thing is certain: anything that can have college students on an English field trip wandering round Stratford-on-Avon singing, in unclose harmony, the theme song of a show they all saw in junior school (The Flumps) has to be good!

Classic Kids TV Sites

The Clangers Website
Ah, the Clangers! Small pink creatures living on a planet with the Soup Dragon, speaking in music. Incomparable. Watching re-runs as an adult, the magic is still there. The stories are so well-written, true classics, every one.

As If By Magic - Mr Benn
"As if by magic, the shopkeeper appeared." Mr Benn's trips in time through the other door of the changing room at the costume shop were great, and I loved the way he always found a memento of his trip in his pocket as he walked back to his everyday house.

The Trumptonshire Web
There's a whole generation of people who know what it means to recite "Pugh, Pugh, Barley McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb!" and that 452 is PC McGarry's number... And who could forget Windy Miller?

Watched It! Classic Kids TV
Catweazle? The Flumps? Fingermouse? The Perishers? All here for a trip down memory lane - funny how I remember them all like yesterday...

Public Information Films
Those long ago films with the boy and his cat, "Charley says...", or the roadsafety squirrels. RealPlayer clips of those silly litte films are here, along with lots of info.

Rentaghost
Timothy Claypole rules! This comedy show got very bad towards the end of its run, but the early series were hilarious!

Noggin the Nog - Northlands
I don't really remember Noggin the Nog but this site is great!
