Smiley Pro is a little rotating smiling face that sits in your taskbar, as can be seen in the animation above. But even more than this (yes, can you believe there is more excitement to come?), Smiley Pro is a neat little program that plays soothing sounds while you work. Now I must admit, I first downloaded this for the snigger-value: I expected it to be very very naff indeed. Over a year later, and it's still on my 'puter, and still used an awful lot. But what kind of soothing sounds, I hear you ask. Well, my personal favourite is Rohoboth Beach with seagulls, which is a looped track of waves crashing and gulls calling, and is very atmospheric for such a simple thing. All the sounds in the program are short, looped tracks, and it's very easy to make your own files too, although about 20 are available from the designers. You can chill out to rainforests, woodland streams, a dusty road at night, even the bridge of the Starship Enterprise - 60's or 90's version - if you absolutely have to do so... Such a simple little idea, but rather wonderful in execution, Smiley Pro is easy to use, takes up hardly any resources and is infinitely customisable. Download it. At once.
